The Evolution of Dog Training +

Hi. I’m Dan Raymer - as many of you know. And if you are new here - welcome! I have been working with dogs and cats for over 20 years. I’ve worked in kennels, vet clinics (as a vet assistant/tech), dog daycares, and as a trainer/behavior consultant in various capacities, including dog walking. My original dog training business (with in-person training options) was called North Carolina Dogs, changed to Raymer Family Dog Training, and online services eventually migrated to Dog Training + where I’ve worked with families and their pet dogs - through a membership program of online courses.

As of now, I’m transitioning from helping pet parents to focusing on helping the next generation of professional dog trainers - which is my passion! I’m working on developing and launching Dog Training + Academy to help aspiring dog trainers learn all of the skills and knowledge to enter the professional field so they can help more people and their pets using humane, positive reinforcement training methods.

As society moves toward appropriately banning aversive/cruel treatment of dogs (such as accurately labeling remote shock collars, choke chains, prong collars, and corrections as animal cruelty), there is a need for new trainers with modern, up-to-date on scientific animal behavior knowledge, and competence (with experience and training chops/mechanical skills) to fill the needs of pet parents and others such as shelter and rescue dogs in our community.

What does this mean for our website/services? Expect to see some changes soon, and probably some more over time. We’re always growing and working to improve things to help the most dogs possible.

  • Right now my focus on on the creation of Dog Training +

  • My YouTube channel is still available for both pet parents and aspiring or current trainers (with a dog and cat focus), and there will be more free behavior, training, and welfare advice over time.

  • We may add more services for pet parents in the future (and have some tentative plans) - and/or will be able to refer to our Academy graduates in the future as they earn their CBTW (Certificate in Behavior, Training, and Welfare).

The blog will add more topics for aspiring trainers (with some articles pet parents may also find useful).

Update: Dog Training + Academy is now accepting applications!
